SOCI 204 - Rural Sociology Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) (Same as URBS 204 ) What is the state of the rural — in contemporary society, and in urban imagination? This course examines the demographic, economic, cultural, and political conditions of rural society, with a focus on North America and an attention to global sources of change. Themes include rural inequalities and diversities; the transformation of agriculture, resource extraction, and industry in the countryside; hinterland out-migration, in-migration, and urbanization; and visibilities and invisibilities of “the rural” in popular culture, social problems, and politics. Leonard Nevarez.
