ITAL 222 - Italian Journeys Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) This advanced-level course covers different eras of Italian cultural history through the theme of the journey: symbolic journeys, personal development journeys, and journeys of exploration across the Italian territory and beyond. Through reading prose, poetry, theater, and film, students take an in-depth look at some of the more culturally important texts in the Italian canon. Beginning with Dante, Boccaccio and Ariosto and moving through to modern authors like Giorgio Bassani or Amara Lakhous, students become familiar with the recurring themes of displacement and discovery that continue to shape Italian culture. In this course, students read at least one novel in its entirety, produce their own written analysis and give oral presentations on topics they study and research over the course of the semester. Alberto Gelmi.
Prerequisite(s): ITAL 220 , ITAL 244 (Italian Workshop at ECCo) or permission of the instructor.
Course conducted entirely in Italian.
