Electives
Three electives depending on the chosen pathway:
- Mathematics: One at the 200 or 300 level and two at the 300 level
- Statistics: Three at the 300-level, two of which must be Statistics; students who use MATH 242 Applied Statistical Modeling to fulfill both the Specific Course Requirement and the Distributional Content Area must take an additional 200- or 300-level elective
- Applied Mathematics: MATH 215 or MATH 217 , and two at the 300 level, one of which must be an applied mathematics course; students who use MATH 215 or 217 to fulfill the Specific Course requirement must take an additional 200- or 300-level elective.
Intensives
Intensive taken in the senior year.
NRO
Work used to satisfy major requirements may not be taken NRO after declaration of the major. Only one course taken NRO may count toward the major. No work at the 300 level for the major may be taken NRO.
Additional Information
Independent study (MATH 298 or MATH 399 ), community-engaged learning (MATH 290 ), and other ungraded work may not be counted among the required units except with prior approval of the chair.
Recommendation
The department recommends that majors take MATH 217 or a programming course in computer science. Students following pathways in applied mathematics or statistics are recommended to take courses in related fields where mathematics and/or statistics are applied.
