Anthropology Major

Required Units

Distributional Content Area Units Required


Courses are required as described below. Coursework in three subfields of anthropology must be completed by the end of the junior year.

1. Subfield Requirement: 1.5 or 2 units


  • One course from Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, or Linguistic Anthropology, AND the intensive ANTH 202 Anthropological Approaches

or

  • Two courses, drawn from the 100- or 200-level in two of the above subfields

2. Regional Familiarity: 1.5 or 2 units


      Two courses chosen from:

  • One 300-level Anthropology seminar (in addition to ANTH 301 )
  • Two additional Anthropology electives from any level or area
  • Additional coursework to total 10 non-Intensive units

Intensives (Some Intensive units may be included in the above)


1.5 units of Intensives required, which includes those used to meet the regional familiarity or Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, or Linguistic Anthropology distribution.

Other


Students may petition up to one unit of coursework, including Intensives, from another department or program to count to the major.

Additional Information


Students declared as Anthropology majors as of the end of the spring 2019 semester will be grandfathered under the requirements in effect at the time of declaration, and will be allowed to take Intensives to count to their necessary 12 major units.
