This course explores the historical origins of sustainability, its varied and contested meanings, its relations to other leading dimensions of environmental political thought, how climate change impacts the goal of sustainability, and the critics of sustainability. We also analyze how sustainability relates to mass-consumption societies, to democracy, and to the modern state. Peter Stillman.
