POLI 267 - Cultures of Insecurity

Semester Offered: Fall
1 unit(s)

This course examines the cultural constructions of threat that animate increasingly violent and pervasive practices of transnational policing. Drawing on literature in the fields of International Relations and Security Studies, we analyze xenophobic narratives that have mobilized large segments of national populations to support these practices. In addition to “official” government narratives about national and civilizational security, we explore representations of danger in film, literature, journalism, and social media. Mark Hoffman.

Two 75-minute periods.
