RUSS 323 - Chekhov’s Short Stories and Plays 1 unit(s)
(Same as DRAM 323 ) Close reading of major plays and selected short stories by Anton Chekhov in a seminar format. Focus on the forms and themes of Chekhov’s works, as well as their historical contexts in terms of dramaturgy, reception and artistic legacy. Special attention is given to the spectrum of interpretations of Chekhov’s works in a transnational context. Accompanied by film screenings. Class discussions are in English but Russian Studies students are required to read part of the texts in the original. The department.
Prerequisite(s): RUSS 210 or above, or permission of the instructor.
