POLI 269 - The Politics of Humanitarianism Semester Offered: Fall 1 unit(s) This course analyzes the ways in which humanitarian regimes have participated in practices of social control and in the production of violent conflict. In particular, we focus critical attention on the ways in which humanitarian interventions have: 1) restricted the movement of their beneficiaries; 2) suppressed political struggles for political and cultural autonomy; 3) participated in the exclusion of beneficiaries of aid from domains of citizenship and 4) empowered certain actors at the expense of others. Mark Hoffman.
Two 75-minute periods.
