ART 308 - Print/Publish/Circulate

Semester Offered: Spring
1 unit(s)
In contrast to our daily experience of mass-produced multiplications, this course explores the act of publishing on a smaller scale, as a way to circulate information and to engage audience/recipients through messaging, sharing, gifting, and acts of exchange with others. Using a range of processes from hand printing and risography to copy machines and laser etching, students create artworks that are meant to enter public spaces and find their way into people’s hands as artist books, zines, signs, objects, handouts, and more. Historical and contemporary artists and publications are explored while students consider their own acts of publication and distribution. Together, we examine the implications and potential of being able to directly engage with these printed objects.  Christina Tenaglia.

Prerequisite(s): ART 107 . Juniors and Seniors only and permission of the instructor.

Two 2-hour periods.

Course Format: CLS
