FILM 246 - Wild Sound Semester Offered: Spring 0.5 unit(s) “Wild sound” is any audio used in film that has been recorded asynchronously from the image. It’s also a poetic term which conjures a landscape of possibilities in our relationship to the sonic world that surrounds us. How can we become better listeners and thus more present in our own lives? How can we use this expanded awareness to create richer sound design for film? Through in-class experiential prompts inspired by the practice of deep listening, we listen to, collect, and create with sound. Students produce 3 audio pieces, either as standalone works or to be used for film projects. This class privileges experiences with sound over technical instruction. We work in Adobe Premiere, but motivated self-starters can also explore other software options. Denise Iris.
