This Intensive explores visual representations of a selected play by Shakespeare. With the understanding that Shakespeare has always been intermedial, we discuss the materiality of Shakespeare’s text as well as Shakespearean illustrations, stage performances, film and television adaptations, and digital Shakespeare. By focusing on several film versions and other mediations of the selected play, our objective is to understand the complex—and often conflicting—ways in which the play generates meanings today.
