LALS 275 - Transnational Childhoods Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) (Same as SOCI 275 ) This course explores children’s presence and participation in processes of international migration. A particular focus of the course is on the factors that shape chain and circulating migration and the complex decision-making processes within families when children are left behind, sent back to a home country, or take the lead in chain migration. We examine how factors such as globalization, displacement, family separation, and transnational care networks shape contemporary childhoods among immigrant families. Students analyze how children navigate complex identities, help sustain familial and cultural ties across distances, and respond to the challenges and opportunities of living in more than one cultural or national context. Eréndira Rueda.
