ENST 291 - Field Experiences in the Hudson Valley

Semester Offered: Fall
0.5 unit(s)

The course emphasizes field-based learning that, rather than beginning with established divisions or disciplines, focuses on problems or questions to which students can bring all the resources of their previous classes in a truly multidisciplinary fashion while exploring and learning about the Hudson Valley.

Required for Environmental Studies majors; students may instead take any other ENST course with a travel or field component. Students who have taken ENST 292  are not eligible to take this course. Field courses not originating in or cross-listed in ENST will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Topic for 2026/27a: Hudson Valley Landuse: Past, Present and Future. The landscape of the Hudson Valley has changed significantly over the past few hundred years.  We use field trips to explore those shifts and how people are working to maintain and restore resilient local ecosystems.  Site visits include wetlands, agricultural meadows, riparian zones, forests, and urban green spaces. Margaret Ronsheim.

Prerequisite(s): ENST 107  or ENST 124 .

First six-week course.

One 4-hour period.

Course Format: INT
