ENGL 222 - Early British Literature

This course explores the development of English literature from its beginnings in the Anglo-Saxon period to the Renaissance. In it we examine individual works of literature in their historical and literary context, noting significant features of cultural history as well as developments in literary form. Texts may include BeowulfSir Gawain and the Green KnightPearlThe Canterbury TalesRomeo and JulietA Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Othello. Mark Amodio.

This course satisfies the pre-1800 requirement for the English major.
