Detailed visual analysis and critical readings of primary texts lead us to a range of topics, including the rise of Zen aesthetics, Sino-Japanese cultural exchange, urban fashion and print culture in the Japanese shogunate, the role of illustration in Japanese literary culture, and the place of women as patrons, pioneers and centerpieces of propaganda and consumption in premodern Japan. Petya Andreeva.
