AMST 280 - Landmarks of New York City Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) (Same as GEOG 280 and URBS 280 ) Reading human or cultural landscapes has a long tradition in history, geography, architecture, urban studies, and related fields. This multidisciplinary intensive course focuses on the changing historical landscapes of people and power that have created New York City. This year, we study the making of landmarks and historic districts in the city –– their histories and rationales. We rely on the designations of the Landmark Preservation Commission as well as site visits and interviews. Students prepare three reports on landmarks of their choice. Brian Godfrey.
