URBS 364 - Seminar in Twentieth Century and Contemporary Art Semester Offered: Fall 1 unit(s) Topic for 2025/26a: Marcel Duchamp Underground: (Same as ART 364 and MEDS 364 ) The seminar considers the work of Marcel Duchamp, which, after 1912, was done outside the mainstream exhibition spaces in Paris and New York. Much of it would not be classified as art work and this was intentional. For the rest of his life Duchamp developed ways of working and thinking which to this day remain unusual and largely private. The seminar excavates Duchamp’s underground, engages his writing in its historical context and sets up a laboratory for the students’ research. Molly Nesbit.
