WFQS 354 - Critical Issues in Women’s Health Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) (Same as STS 354 ) This course provides an overview of critical issues affecting women’s health in the United States. By identifying the systemic reasons and historical context women experience bias and discrimination in healthcare, students gain an understanding of the gaps in medical research, representation, and funding for women’s health. Reviewing health conditions such as endometriosis, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders provides context. Students discuss other current public health crises, such as the public health implications of abortion bans and the Black maternal health crisis. We address the imperative for transgender and nonbinary inclusiveness in language and public health solutions. The life course, social determinants, reproductive justice, and intersectionality frameworks guide and contextualize the topics discussed. Christie Van Horne.
