This course surveys Black cultural production through the lens of Afrofuturism. Through creative and scholarly work, students will discover the ways Afrofuturists utilize image, text, and sound to design freedom technologies. Readings include Octavia Butler, Marlo David, Kodwo Eshun, Paul Gilroy, Alondra Nelson, Sun Ra, Louise Seamster, Victor Ray, and Alexander Weheliye. Tamyka Jordon-Conlin.
Prerequisite(s): One course in Africana Studies, Music, or permission of the instructor.
