SOCI 387 - Food Fights

Semester Offered: Spring
1 unit(s)
(Same as ENST 387 ) James Beard argued “Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” Our understanding of the complexities regarding food systems is important because the fate of the 21st century might be defined in the dramatic consequences of the current events and movements regarding food. One of the most striking and consistent observations from these movements is that the peoples’ voices are not silenced in the face of violence, oppression and tyranny, but by hunger. In this class, while we study food and food systems, environment and the food politics, economics of food and the food culture, we also engage with the debates regarding the future of food globally. Pinar Batur.
