ART 214 - Digital and Experimental Photography Semester Offered: Fall 1 unit(s) This course provides an introduction to the creative and technological possibilities of digital photography. Students learn the basics of DSLR camera operation while leveraging digital technologies to push photographic aesthetics and expand conceptual boundaries. The curriculum covers fundamental photographic theory alongside practical topics such as manual camera operations, shutter speed, aperture, RAW file formats, white balance, composition, and effective workflow. Students dive into digital editing, using tools like Adobe Bridge, Camera RAW, Photoshop, and InDesign to manage files, enhance images, and print with ink-jet technology. The course explores different digital output methods, such as viewing images on screens, projecting them, printing, and other potential formats for displaying photography. During the semester, students gain a strong understanding of both photographic principles and digital tools, enabling them to make deliberate and innovative creative choices. A digital camera (DSLR) is provided, if needed.
