ART 212 - Photography

Semester Offered: Fall
1 unit(s)
This course serves as an introduction to analog photography and provides an opportunity for beginning and experienced photographers to immerse themselves in the tradition of film-based imagery. Students begin to explore the visual language of black and white photography, the historical significance, and its role in the contemporary art world. There is an emphasis on technical skills such as proper camera use, exposing film, developing negatives, and printing in the darkroom. This hands-on course is designed for students to find a balance between technical methods and aesthetic choices.  With weekly assignments, discussions, and critiques, students are asked to convey ideas and explore themes in their own work, developing their own photographic language and unique style. All students are required to supply their own 35mm film camera. Abigail Gunnels.

Prerequisite(s): ART 102 -ART 103  and permission of the instructor.

One 4-hour period.
