BIOL 385 - Insect Behavior Semester Offered: Fall 1 unit(s) Insects are the most diverse organisms on the planet, occupying nearly every terrestrial landmass and filling countless niches. Over half of the 1.5 million living species described are classified as insects. Despite their overwhelming diversity, biomass, and ecological importance, insects are understudied compared to vertebrates. In this class, we explore Entomology and the fascinating world of insects. We discuss anatomy and physiology, taxonomy, evolution, and ecology, with an emphasis on the behavior of these animals. The course is divided between traditional lectures, student-led discussions about current entomological research, and some hands-on experience collecting and observing insects in the field. Timothy Lampasona.
Prerequisite(s): Two 200-level Biology courses.
Two 75-minute periods.
