GRST 204 - Gender and Sexuality in Roman CultureSemester Offered: Fall 1 unit(s) (Same as WMST 204 ) This course examines in detail the sexual attitudes and behaviors of the ancient Romans and the gender roles that both shaped and were shaped by those attitudes. We study selections from ancient Greek and Roman literature, examine artistic remains, and read articles written by prominent scholars of ancient Rome. While the readings are in roughly chronological order, the course is principally organized by topic (e.g., a day for “Roman pederasty” or “Vestal virgins”). All readings are in English translation. Mr. Corbeill.
Two 75-minute periods.
