AFRS 313 - Culture and Society in the Middle East and North Africa Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) This is an advanced Language and Culture course taught in Arabic. Students continue to develop their communicative skills while gaining practical knowledge about some valued ancestral and ever-present Arab social values centered around notions of respect, hospitality, cooperation, and social solidarity. We read, speak, and write about a range of texts from different genres. We watch documentary and feature films as well as music videos illustrating the social currency and continued relevance of those social values in contemporary Arabic societies as manifested in daily life practices, traditions, Arab leisure time activities, the arts, music, and food across the Middle East and North Africa.
