GNCS 226 - American Literature, 1865-1925

(Same as ENGL 226) Study of the major developments in American literature and culture from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Literary movements such as realism, naturalism, and modernism are examined, as well as literatures of ethnicity, race, and gender. Works studied are drawn from such authors as Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, Henry James, Edith Wharton, Theodore Dreiser, W.E.B. DuBois, William Faulkner, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Zora Neale Hurston, T.S. Eliot, and Jean Toomer. Wendy Graham.

This course satisfies the REGS or the pre-1900 requirement for the English major.
