STS 162 - Science Writing as Radical Amazement 1 unit(s) At its core, science is an attempt to understand the complex, mysterious, hidden, and novel aspects of the world; understanding of science can develop a profound sense of wonder and amazement. Science writing makes this sense of radical amazement available to a general audience. This course explores the experience of wonder generated by reading about science, medicine, and the natural world and will allow students to develop their capacity to write about these fields. This course explores various genres of writing about science for a general audience, including narrative, personal essay, reporting, and verse, with a focus on the emotional and spiritual impacts of science.
