GRST 327 - Greeks, Romans, and Classicists on Screen 1 unit(s) This intensive explores the portrayal of the Ancient Greeks and Romans – and those who study them – in the media of television and film. In addition to screenings, students examine the ways in which Classical societies were and continued to be packaged for 20thand 21stcentury audiences and the ways these images shape popular understandings of both ancient societies and the archaeologists, historians, and literary scholars who research them. Throughout, the course interrogates how these filmed versions of antiquity shape contemporary assumptions about ancient Greece and Rome’s approaches to race, gender, sexuality, religion, and politics.
