ART 305 - Sculpture II Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) Topic for 2024/25b: Material as Meaning. How do the materials we use communicate meaning within our work? What kinds of collective and personal histories does a material hold within its makeup? How do we source materials? What kinds of environmental and labor-related consequences are present within the use of a material? Can materials hold truths? Through a series of independent projects and material investigations, we ask and attempt to answer these questions together in the hope of building shared knowledge about the materials we use and their potential role in defining or amplifying meaning within the works we make. Each student develops their own ideas regarding material language with the support of group critiques, problem-solving, and shared research. Christina Tenaglia.
