PHIL 250 - Feminist Theory

(Same as WFQS 250 ) Should housework be waged? Should sex be for sale? What is the patriarchy anyway? This course is an introduction to feminist theory as well as the arguments and questions that have occupied radical, socialist, Black, eco, decolonial and queer feminists. In this class, we’ll read Simone de Beauvoir, Judith Butler, Silvia Federici, Audre Lorde, Kimberle Crenshaw, Gloria Anzaldua, Jack Halbertstam and Gayatri Spivak among others, with a view towards understanding connections between gender, work, and identity as well as how they matter for us today. Prerequisite(s): One unit of Philosophy or Women’s Studies.
