Topic for 2024/25b: Local Chinese Community Language School Immersion. Chinese Community Schools play a large role in preserving and promoting Chinese language, culture, and traditions among younger generations, as well as fostering a sense of community and identity among Chinese diaspora communities. Students will work with a local Chinese community school, the Mid-Hudson Chinese Language Center (MHCLC), and read academic articles about the relationship between Chinese community schools, Chinese immigrant populations, and their larger communities. This intensive includes discussion sessions and volunteer work co-facilitated in collaboration with Principal Fenlan Lin and Professor Sun-Wan Chien of the Mid-Hudson Chinese Language Center.
