HIST 282 - Fictions of “Gilded Age” America Semester Offered: Fall 1 unit(s) Starting with an introduciton to Matrk Twain’s scam artist Colonel Mulberry Sellers, from his novel The Gilded Age, this intensive invites students to explore economic and social conflicts among Americans from roughly 1870 to 1910, through works of fiction. The class discusses works by leading literary figures as well as works by immigrant, radical, and utopian authors. Each student conducts research and writes a short story of their own, set during the “Gilded Age.” Rebecca Edwards.
