(Same as INTL 270) Topic for 2023/24b: North Africa. A course exploring the Jewish paradigm of double diaspora—neither entirely at home when at home, nor entirely away when away–as it has been historically constructed, mythologized and deconstructed with respect to North Africa. The texts studied include an early work of postcolonial theory, a memoir, a novel or two, a feminist reflection on writing, a philosophical confession, and a post-rabbinic prose poem by Jewish authors from Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.
