Topic for 2023/24b:Hasidism: Roots and Branches. Hasidism, the first reform movement in modern Judaism, was a radical, joyous, grassroots mystical movement, which has, over the years, transformed into an ultra-Orthodoxy. We examine the roots and branches of the Hasidic movement and chart its influence upon and implications for contemporary Jewish life and for the larger picture of spirituality in America, Israel and Europe.
