PHIL 224 - Philosophy of Mind

Semester Offered: Spring
1 unit(s)
Can we make sense of beings with thoughts and feelings in a world made of physical stuff? Relatedly, can we identify what it would be for robots, aliens, and nonhuman animals to be conscious and to use genuine communication? Is your phone part of your mind? Are there “group minds”? Students are encouraged to make use of multidisciplinary inquiry as they approach their own responses to these questions. Some class time is set aside for student-chosen topics.  Sofia Ortiz-Hinojosa.

Prerequisite(s): A course in Philosophy, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or Neurobiology is encouraged.

Two 75-minute periods.

Course Format: CLS
