(Same as ART 364) Topic for 2023-2024b: Marcel Duchamp Underground: The seminar will consider the work of Marcel Duchamp, which, after 1912, was done outside the mainstream exhibition spaces in Paris and New York. Much of it would not be classified as art work and this was intentional. For the rest of his life Duchamp developed ways of working and thinking which to this day remain unusual and largely private. The seminar will excavate Duchamp’s underground, engage his writing in its historical context and set up a laboratory for the students’ research. Molly Nesbit.
