EDUC 361 - Seminar: Mathematics and Science in the Elementary Curriculum

The purpose of this course is to develop the student’s competency to teach mathematics and science to elementary school children. There is an emphasis on constructivist pedagogy and project-based learning (PBL) in this course. Hands-on activity sessions are used to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) curriculum, instructional methods, and resource materials, to develop tangible understandings of mathematics and science concepts. Students have the opportunity to plan, implement, and assess mathematics and science lessons in appropriate educational settings through field assignments in local schools, with academic enrichment partners, and in-class activities. Students enrolled in this course are required to teach math & science lessons off campus. Hence, enrolled students must reserve at least one (1) morning per week to take this course. Jaime Del Razo.

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 235  or EDUC 162 , sophomore, junior, senior only.
