CMPU 395 - Advanced Special Topics

Topic for 2023/24b: Implementing Intelligent Game Players. Utilizes a variety of techniques from Artificial Intelligence to build intelligent game players for two-player adversarial games such as Chess, Go, Checkers, and Backgammon. Foundational techniques such as Minimax with Alpha-Beta Pruning and Monte Carlo Tree Search are augmented by efficient representations, enhanced evaluation functions, and end-game databases to improve performance. Additional approaches may include the use of neural networks and other forms of machine learning.  Students work in groups to explore recent advances and to develop, implement and test their intelligent game players. Prerequisite(s): CMPU 203  and CMPU 241 .

Two 75-minute periods.
