ASIA 180 - Introduction to Chinese Linguistics: Language in Society, Culture, and Politics

(Same as CHIN 180 )  This course provides a systematic introduction to the nature and characteristics of Chinese, including the many varieties of Chinese along with their histories, sound systems, grammars, lexicons, and writing systems. Through this course, students develop useful perspectives and multimodal research skills for understanding the structure of the Chinese language and the socio-cultural, historical, and geographical contexts in which Chinese is used.

Two 75-minute periods.
