ENST 162 - Climate Solutions and Climate Careers: finding your place in the climate fight

Semester Offered: Fall
1 unit(s)
This is a pivotal, all-hands-on-deck moment in human history. Everyone is needed right now in the fight against climate change and for environmental justice. This intensive is designed to help students find roles in the climate fight in their lives after Vassar that fit their talents, skills, and interests. We map the technological, economic, social, and political landscape of climate solutions and the work needed to implement those solutions in coming decades, in careers ranging from engineering to ocean farming, public policy to finance, urban design to international development, and many more. The class hosts a series of guest speakers who are professionals in a wide variety of careers, all working to address climate change.  Probable texts include All We Can Save: Truth, Courage, and Solutions for the Climate Crisis, ed. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katherine K. Wilkinson; Drawdown, The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming, ed. Paul Hawken; and Electrify: An Optimist’s Playbook for our Clean Energy Future, by Saul Griffith.  Each student in the Intensive undertakes a research project centering on a climate solution or climate career of their choice. Jeffrey Seidman.

Two 75-minute periods.
