ANTH 288 - Decolonization and Digital Health Information

Semester Offered: Spring
1 unit(s)
This intensive experience uses anthropological methods to evaluate the current health information system of the nation of Guyana and envision alternatives. Students work with both Dr. Jeb Weisman of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Dr. Louis Römer of the Vassar anthropology department. Students use sources such as the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and UNICEF to develop hypotheses regarding the critical health needs of the people of Guyana, which includes at least six different ethnic groups. A social-cultural perspective of their health needs is critical to this project, therefore previous coursework in anthropology is required. This intensive is limited to four students and registration is by special permission.  Louis Romer.

Prerequisite(s): Previous coursework in Anthropology.

One 2-hour period and individual conferences with the instructor.

Course Format: INT
