ENGL 205 - Introductory Creative Writing

This course examines creative writing as a process in which analysis and innovation meet, asking the question: What is craft? How does one best employ literary tools to accomplish one’s aims as a creative writer?  Throughout the semester we will consider several works of fiction, narrative nonfiction, poetry, or other literary forms. Through workshops, close reading and critique of published work, and other exercises, the class will help writers build a fundamental vocabulary of literary techniques. Not offered fall term to first-year students; spring term, first-year students may apply through preregistration. 

One 2-hour period and individual conferences with the instructor.
