COGS 311 - Seminar in Cognitive Science Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) Topic for 2022/23b: Language. The topic is the relationship between language and thought, emphasizing consciousness, concepts, and abstraction. How are we changed cognitively by virtue of having language? Overall plan of the course: we begin by (and spend the first half of the semester) reading carefully selected articles on a series of subtopics concerning language and thought to provide a shared framework. Then we form small groups and develop specific empirical projects to further explore this territory. Most of our work later in the semester is geared to these projects. Jan Andrews.
Prerequisite(s): At least one 200-level course in Cognitive Science and permission of the instructor.
One 3-hour period.
