CLCS 385 - The Vassar Podcast

Semester Offered: Fall
0.5 unit(s)

The Vassar Podcast is a monthly podcast for the Vassar community at large as well as other liberal arts college and higher education audiences that engages guests (faculty members, emeriti, alumnae/I, students, employees, Poughkeepsie community members, guest lecturers, and friends of the College) by themselves or as a group, in conversations that explore the nuances, contradictions, and humanity inherent in guests’ personal and professional lives. The podcast both “goes to the source” and provides conversations that engage different perspectives on political, social, and cultural issues of the day.

In this intensive, students explore the podcast as media form and learn non-technical aspects of podcast production. Students work with Professor Bradley and Professor Hoynes on developing topic suggestions, conducting topic research, researching and suggesting thought leaders as prospective guests, conducing selected guest research, helping to draft Q & A for podcast episodes, and drafting material for the podcast’s accompanying blog. At the end of the semester, each student completes a final project, such as an analysis of the fledgling Vassar podcast in the media landscape or a proposal for a future Vassar podcast episode. Elizabeth Bradley, William Hoynes.

One 2-hour period.

Course Format: INT
