ART 206 - Drawing II

Semester Offered: Fall
1 unit(s)
Responding to Photographs Through Drawing. Photography, and all related media e.g. digital, video, screens, etc. predominate the visual terrain and have assumed an undisguised status and authority in visual thinking today. This course explores contemporary drawing strategies as means to respond to photographs. Students take an interpretive approach to assignments, and work from a variety of photographic subjects. Short and long term projects are developed, with an emphasis on working through both perceptual and conceptual concerns in response to photographic images using material investigations. We attempt to place drawing, perception, and mark making into a broader way of thinking and communicating about photographs. The use of photographs by artists since the invention of photography are also  explored.  Peter Charlap.

Prerequisite(s): ART 102  or other studio course.

Two 2-hour periods.

Course Format: CLS
