Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) The term “essay” evolved out of its verb forms meaning “to try” and “to test.” What we call the essay film carries on this tradition of foregrounding the searching quality of human consciousness, the way that meaning can often emerge organically out of more open and meandering forms and strategies than those we typically associate with narrative or rhetoric. In this course we explore these strategies through practice-based exercises leading up to the creation of an original short essay film. Shane Slattery-Quintanilla.
