STS 226 - Philosophy of Science

(Same as PHIL 226 ) An examination of general as well as specific topics in the philosophy of science, including the status of scientific rationalism and scientific realism, the interpretation of relativity theory and quantum theory, the evaluation of origins-of-life research, and the prospects for a science of consciousness. Attention is also paid to issues in the philosophy of technology, and to the role science plays in society. Douglas Winblad.

Prerequisite(s): One 100-level course in Philosophy.
