ART 220 - Medieval Architecture Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) A survey of magnificent works of architecture constructed in the Mediterranean and Europe from the fourth to the fifteenth century, and an overview of the structural and symbolic language developed by their builders, patrons, and users. Particular attention is paid to the matter of representation: the challenge of bringing a medieval building into the classroom, that of translating our impressions of these structures into words and images, and the ways in which other beholders and scholars have done so. Prerequisite(s): ART 105 or ART 106 , coursework in Medieval Studies, or permission of the instructor.
Two 75-minute periods.
