DRAM 336 - Seminar in Performance Studies Semester Offered: Spring 1 unit(s) Selected topics in Western and non-Western performance traditions and literatures. Weekly assignments include performative writing, and performance labs.
Topic for 2018/19b: Theaters of Gods and Heroes: Staging the Epics of Greece and India. This seminar explores how the Iliad, the Odyssey, The Ramayana, and the Mahabharata have been adapted in theatrical performance on both local and global stages for over two millennia. Students read selections of the epic poems (in translation) alongside dramatic interpretations that range from the classical to contemporary, thinking through how stories of great magnitude can and have been presented theatrically.
