SOCI 322 - Walking 1 unit(s) Walking is an explicit and graphic illustration of the challenges of everyday life. The act and the meaning of walking have been a conundrum for theorists and dilemma for social thinkers. From a form of exploration to an expression of protest, from issues regarding stratification to social change, “walking” is not only an act, but an expression, an inquiry, a confrontation, defiance and a demand. This course examines “walking” through a spectrum of texts by Simmel, Baudelaire, Benjamin, Harvey, Thoreau, Muir, MLK, and Malcolm X, among others. Ms. Batur.
Not offered in 2014/15.
One 3-hour period.
